چکیده

One way of improving the performance of cellular networks is to build a second layer of macrocells on top of the microcell level. The system performance can further be increased by using guard channels and allowing calls to overflow to the upper layer when needed. In this study, we used simulated annealing (SA) to determine the design parameters of two-tier cellular networks for which the cost is minimized. We experimented with the SA-based technique on different example problems and obtained promising results.

Optimal Load Balancing in Millimeter Wave Cellular Heterogeneous Networks

In this paper, we propose a novel and effective approach to optimizing the load balancing in a millimeter wave (mmWave) cellular heterogeneous network (HetNet) with a macro-tier and a micro-tier. The unique characteristics of mmWave transmission are incorporated into the network by adopting the Poisson point process (PPP) for base station (BS) location, the line-of-sight (LoS) ball model for mm...

Two-tier Supplier Base Efficiency Evaluation Via Network DEA: A Game Theory Approach

In today's competitive markets, firms try to reduce their supply cost by selecting efficient suppliers using different techniques. Several methods can be applied to evaluate the efficiency of supplier base. This paper develops generalized network data envelopment analysis models to examine the efficiency of two-tier supplier bases under cooperative and non-cooperative strategies where each tier...

Multi-Tier Cellular Network Dimensioning

Wireless communications systems enable the end users to be mobile. The majority of the wireless communications networks are cellular networks. Several methods are developed to increase the performance of the cellular networks, which depends on the correct determination of the design parameters as well as the architecture of the system and the traffic requirements. In this study, we introduce a ...

Adaptive density control in heterogeneous wireless sensor networks with and without power management

The authors study the design of heterogeneous two-tier wireless sensor networks (WSNs), where one tier of nodes is more robust and computationally intensive than the other tier. The authors find the ratios of densities of nodes in each tier to maximise coverage and network lifetime. By employing coverage processes and optimisation theory, the authors show that any topology of WSN derived from r...

Modeling and analysis of queuing handoff calls in single and two-tier cellular networks

Two-tier cellular networks consist of a group of contiguous microcells overlaid by a macrocell. This design provides an enhanced use of the networks’ resources for both high and low speed users because of the availability of additional channels. However, this causes an increase in the number of handoffs between cells due to having smaller cell sizes in the microcell tier. Since, handoff call bl...
